Top Ten Tuesday. 10 Book Blogging Confessions

This week's theme is top ten book blogging confessions. Although our account is really quite new, I (Claire) have done blogs and posts on other websites as well. Here are the things I keep to myself, but are guilty of thinking or doing. (Some have more to do with blogs or books than others)

1. Inconsistent posts
If there is one thing I have issues with, it's how inconsistent I make posts. I'll have one week where I'll have 5 or 6 posts, then the next I'll have one. My excitement for blogging goes through it's highs and lows, and I know it's terrible! It's just how I do it.

2. Thinking ahead (or lack of it)
I could help my inconsistent posting if I thought ahead. Just as I'm about to publish my third post of the day, I should think "Woah there Claire! Maybe you should save this book review for a time when you're on vacation or something." Nah. It's gong to be terrible when I go to summer camp for a few weeks this summer. You guys will probably think I'm dead, because I have no reviews prepared for Stella to post for me during it. Oops.

3. Sugarcoating
Sometimes I get a book that's just okay, but when I go to review it I feel bad. I think, "3 stars? It wasn't that bad. Maybe it deserves 4. And that issue, I don't need to mention it. It wasn't that big of a deal." i try to stop and go with my gut reaction, but sometimes I can't help but feel mean for not giving it a perfect review.

4. Focusing on numbers
I get a bit too caught up in how much people come to my blog. I often forget I should be focusing more on the quality of my blog than the popularity.

5. How do I join?
I will sign up for all the memes, challenges, and groups I can get my grubby little hands on. Then, when it's time to actually do the work that's required, I'm often to lazy after a few days when the excitement dies down.

6. As long as it's a book. . .
I'm not very fussy over the quality of my books. I obviously like it a bit better when they're all pretty on my shelf, but one look at my Harry Potter collection (which I carried around with me through elementary school) will show you the books I love the most are the ones with the most wear and tear on them. Just look at my copy of "White Magic", which I brought to summer camp a few years back. It looks like I left it outside the whole time!

7. One, two, three, four, how do I get some more?
I often read more than one book at a time. Right now I'm reading 3 books, one from Netgalley, one from my shelf, and one from the library, and I don't even care! I want more!

8. Always judge a book by it's cover
A factor in me picking up a book is how pretty it looks. If they're nice art, a clever title, and an overall pretty look, I'll pick yours up instead of that ratty one next to it half the time.

9. To-read nightmares
My to-read list is longer than my read list on goodreads. I am so overwhelmed, but yet I keep looking for more! Then, often enough, the books I buy or borrow don't even come from that list! It just gets bigger!

10. Download spree
Ebooks are amazing. They're cheaper, more portable, and even though you don't get that nice book feel, they still have their advantages. And when we get to the free ebooks? How many can I download in one go?

Do you have any book blog confessions? Spill!

  1. I tend to focus on numbers too, when I should really just worry about blogging, not the numbers that visit me! Great confessions.

I don't think that inconsistent posting is a bad thing. Inasmuch as blogs are a reflection of our reading life, they should reflect both "high tide" and "low tide." =)

    1. Good point. But it still makes me feel a bit guilty.

  3. I am the world's worst at checking the number of hits/day on my blog. I know it shouldn't matter but it does. I have got to do better! I am also the worst at being good about consistently blogging. When I read a book that I love I want to write a review right then and post it and get a million view and comments. This doesn't happen and I probably should limit the amount of posts a day. I also feel bad about giving a book a really low score, I always start second guessing myself and then end up giving it a higher score than I initially intended. Also I tend to fangirl hard core over a book, write a review, fangirl some more, wait a week, and then realize hmmmm... not as good as I thought. What is a blogger to do?

  4. Oh girl don't sugarcoat it. I mean I've never given a book 1 star because if it's less than 2 I'm going to end up DNFing it. But I don't hesitate to give a book 3 stars. That's because accord to my scale 3 stars is "I liked it." So yeah...I definitely say let go of the numbers if you can. But that's easier said than done I know. I like to keep my books in good condition, but I know even I can't keep them in mint condition so I'm not OCD about it or anything. I also read multiple books at one time. :) Can't help it. And I definitely judge a book by the cover...every single time. I periodically go and clean up my to-read list on Goodreads. I remove anything that has a rating of 3.5 stars and I remove books that I think realistically I'll never get around to reading. Nice confessions!

    1. Thanks for the advice. Sugarcoasting is a pretty big issue for me.
